gradient wind balance
In curved flow, the resulting wind can be approximated by the balance between the centripetal acceleration, the Coriolis acceleration and the horizontal pressure force. Because the geostrophic approximation is not valid for curved flow, gradient wind is generally more useful, but still only an approximation of the wind field.
