Fahrenheit

The temperature scale developed by German physicist Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit (1686-from 1708 to 1724. The scale was first derived using the temperature of and ice and ammonia salt solution as 0° F and the normal temperature of human blood as 100° F under standard atmospheric pressure. It was revised several times, and today water's freezing and boiling temperatures are 32° F and 212° F, respectively, and human blood is 98.6° F under standard atmospheric pressure. This scale is the standard for everyday use in the United States. Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature and multiply the results by 5/9 to obtain the equivalent Celsius temperature.
